Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): Faculty from the department of History and BA 5th semester students (History honours) of Unity College Dimapur undertook a one-day study tour of Sivasagar (ocean of Shiva) in Assam on September 14.

An update from the college stated that the department of History chose the destination based on two objectives – to acquaint the students with real-time experience of the Ahom History, and to visit the Central Baptist Church or Sivasagar Baptist Church, constructed in 1841 and Established in 1845.”

“The Compound witnessed the arrival of the Clarks in March 1869 and the subsequent Evangelist Missions into Naga Hills,” read the press release.

Sivasagar was also spelled as Sibsagar and was called Rangpur when it was the erstwhile capital of the Ahom kingdom from 1699 AD to 1788 AD, it informed. “The Ahoms ruled Assam for about six centuries, from 13th century till the Burmese invasion in 1819 and their ruling class disappeared.”
