Let's say you happen to be the fortunate owner of a Pagani Huayra and somehow decided to take your seven-figure hypercar to a drag racing event. A Porsche 918 Spyder lines up next to you - is this a reason to worry?
Well, the answer to the question above is a big, fat "yes". And we're not just discussing this on a theoretical level. That's because a recent velocity gathering of the sort brought the two hypercars together.
I'm referring to an event called Supercar Owners Circle, which was recently held in Andermatt, Switzerland. The location is of uttermost importance here, since it meant the lineup included the kind of expensive/rare machines one rarely sees during such sprinting confrontations.
In fact, the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which covers the sprinting fight between the 918 Spyder and the Huayra, also invloves other spicy races, such as the one that sees the Porscha duking it out with a Bugatti Chiron (we've already covered this, though).
Returning to the race involving the San Cesario sul Panaro monster and the Zuffenhausen animal, the reaction times of the drivers seemed to be within the same league - a human was used to kick off the battle.
And it's worth mentioning that the two pack the same 2.1 kg/PS, despite the Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V12 of the Pagani delivering 730 PS and the gas-electric setup of the 918 producing 887 PS.
But numbers on the screen only tell a small part of the story, as you're about to notice at the 1:00 point of the clip below.
PS: If you'd like to see more battles such as the one discussed here, you can check out the drag race between the Koenigsegg Agera and the Regera. And, to throw a bit of a spoiler your way, I'll mention the said Angelholm vs. Angelholm confrontation ended in quite a gap.
