Schoolteacher shot at in Siwan

A teacher in a government school in Siwan, Kanhaiya Mishra, was shot at and critically injured by two unidentified armed criminals on the school premises on Monday.

PATNA: A teacher in a government school in Siwan, Kanhaiya Mishra, was shot at and critically injured by two unidentified armed criminals on the school premises on Monday. The injured was rushed to the sadar hospital from where he was later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment.
The incident took place around 12.40 pm at Marsara Upgraded Middle School under Darauda police station area when Kanhaiya was teaching the students in the class.
Two youths riding a motorbike reached the school and inquired about Kanhaiya, who was teaching in the classroom. One of them entered the classroom and fired at the teacher from close range. Kanhaiya fell unconscious after receiving bullet injuries.
The firing created panic among the students who ran helter-skelter for security cover. In the melee, the assailants who were in the age group of 20-5 years, managed to escape. Teachers, who were present in other classes, rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to Maharajganj PHC for treatment.
The PHC referred him to the sadar hospital as his condition was stated to be critical. In the evening, Kanhaiya was shifted to PMCH. School principal Ramanand Thakur said, “The assailants pumped two bullets into Kanhaiya’s head and belly.”
Darauda police station SHO Anil Singh said, “The statement of the injured was recorded at sadar hospital before he was referred to PMCH. The identity of the assailants is yet to be ascertained. The motive of the criminals behind the attack could not be immediately known.”
The principal said that Kanhaiya used to come to the school from Maharajganj where he is staying in a rented house. “I was busy in the office when criminals entered the school,” he told police officials, who reached the spot after the incident.
However, no student was injured. Kanhaiya is a resident of Tilkar village under Ekma police station in Saran district.
