PATNA: The SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL) on Monday said the 1,320MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant at Chausa would be ready by 2023. The STPL officials said all the major works related to the construction of the plant were already awarded.
The STPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited, which is a Central Power Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power. PM Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stones for this plant on March 9 this year.
STPL has been established to execute the plant.
SJVN’s chairman & managing director (CMD) Nand Lal Sharma said the Buxar plant would have two units of 660MW each. “As per the construction plan, the first unit will be fully ready by March 2023, while the second is expected to be ready by September 2023,” he told media persons here on Monday.
He also said STPL will be completing this project within stipulated time frame and this project will be a major milestone for SJVN to become a 5,000MW power company by 2023.”The project has been planned with special features to perform as per the latest environmental norms,” he said.
To a question, he said the STPL has already signed a power purchase agreement with the power holding company of Bihar government to supply 85% of the power generated at Buxar plant to the state. “The Buxar project will provide direct and indirect employment to around 2,400 persons. The project will usher in a new era of industrial development of the area, which would also act as a multiplier for employment generation and overall growth of the entire region.,” Sharma said.

SJVN took over Buxar Bijlee Company Pvt. Ltd. (a Bihar government undertaking) on July 4, 2013 and it was renamed as SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL). SJVN signed MoU with Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) and Bihar Infrastructure Company (BPIC) on January 17, 2013 for setting up the Buxar plant.
The estimated cost of super critical 1320MW Buxar Project is Rs10,439 crore at January 2018 price levels.
