MUMBAI: The MRA Marg police have arrested a 35-year-old man for cheating and robbery.
The accused, Arafat Lokhandwala, had boarded a taxi from Taj Lands End Hotel and introduced himself as the son of the Kuwait president. He later robbed the taxi driver of his mobile phone and Rs 300 at Crawford Market.
The accused told the Cool Cab driver to take him to Nariman Point and told him to take the the Bandra-Worli sea link.
En route, he halted at several places, and finally got off at Crawford Market near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
On reaching the destination, Lokhandwala allegedly threatened the taxi driver with a knife, snatched his mobile phone and Rs 300 and fled. The driver filed a complaint at the nearby MRA Marg police station.
The police swung into action and visited the spots where the accused had stpped the cab. Over half a dozen teams were formed to trace the accused, who was finally arrested from Pydhonie.
During interrogation, the police learnt that Lokhandwala is a history-sheeter who had committed petty crimes in the Pydhonie area. He has been remanded in police custody.
