All six Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs in Rajasthan join Congress

Mayawati dubs Congress ‘Cheat’; Gehlot says MLAs joined on their own.

    ET Bureau
NEW DELHI: In a setback to the Bahujan Samaj Party, all its six MLAs in Rajasthan joined the ruling Congress on Tuesday.
The move surprised the BSP camp as the party has already been extending outside support to the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan The MLAs — Rajendra Guda, Jogendra Singh Awana, Wazib Ali, Lakhan Singh Meena, Sandeep Yadav and Deepchand Kheria — met assembly speaker CP Joshi in the morning and informed him about their decision to join the Congress.

BSP chief Mayawati termed the development as a “betrayal of the BSP movement by the Congress,” in a series of tweets in which she attacked the state’s ruling party. “The Congress party in Rajasthan, by splitting the BSP legislature party, has once again proved that it is not trustworthy and is a cheat,” she said.

The Congress, instead of fighting with its rivals, harms the party which supports it, she alleged, calling it an anti-SC, anti-ST and anti-OBC party. The Congress has always been against BR Ambedkar and his ideology, she said.
