PUNE: The Chandannagar police have registered a non-cognisable offence against a man, who allegedly threatened to upload photographs of his former colleague at a BPO company on a social networking site.
The woman turned to the Buddy Cop WhatsApp group for help, following which police swung into action and booked the man.
"We have served the man a notice under Section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, warning him not to commit a cognisable offence.
If he does not comply, action will be taken against him for breach of conditions," assistant sub inspector D B Zurunge of the Chandannagar police said on Monday.
Police said the suspect and the complainant knew each other, as they worked in the same BPO. The man later resigned from the company.
Relations between the two soured two months ago, following which the woman stopped talking to the suspect, the police said.
Zurunge said, "On September 2, the man saw a male colleague drop her home and confronted her. He then threatened to post her photographs to a social networking site. The man also informed the woman's mother."
The terrified woman informed her Buddy Cop, police naik Shrikant Kurkeli, and urged him to take action against the suspect. Kurkeli met the woman and advised her to register a complaint against the man.
The woman later filed a complaint under Section 509 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code with the Chandannagar police.
