PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities are investigating a hit and run that left a woman with traumatic injuries Monday morning.

A passerby found the woman lying in a ditch off of the 8000 block of NW Lakeshore Avenue in the Felida area and called police just after 7 a.m.

The victim — later identified as 62-year-old Debora A. Chillura — was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.

Investigators with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office have determined that she was struck by an SUV around 3 a.m. Monday morning. Evidence suggests the vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck the woman, who was walking on or near the east shoulder of the roadway.

KOIN 6 News spoke with a man who regularly jogs in this area and saw police investigating earlier Monday.

“It’s kind of sketchy because there is no sidewalk–you’re kind of just running on the shoulder of the road and there’s a few bends,” said Will Wadley. “It’s scary.”

Chillura was still at a hospital as of Tuesday evening. Deputies said she is a transient woman from the Portland area.

Deputies are looking for a 2002-2005 Ford Escape SUV or similar vehicle with fresh damage to its passenger side, including a missing passenger-side mirror. The color of the vehicle is unknown.
