PATNA: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday constituted a committee to inquire into the alleged gang rape of a former inmate of the Muzaffarpur Balika Grih in a moving car at Bettiah.
The committee, headed by NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma, will travel to Bihar this week (most probably on September 19-20) to meet the survivor, Bihar DGP and, if possible, chief minister Nitish Kumar.
“We have formed a committee to look into the matter and I will travel to Muzaffarpur (read Bettiah) to meet the victim.
We will discuss the issue of women’s safety with chief minister Nitish Kumar and Bihar DGP. Have faith on law. The NCW is with the victim,” Sharma said in a tweet on Monday.
Another tweet by the NCW, which Sharma retweeted, read, “She is already a victim, rather than helping her out, she has to go through this. We will give her all help that she needs or asks for. We will have to ensure her safety as well.”
The woman, who had been an inmate of the Muzaffarpur shelter home, was allegedly raped by four youths in a moving vehicle in Bettiah town of West Champaran district on Friday.
