The eye-opening photograph portraying Ganapati Bappa and taziya is a heart-warming reflection of the time when Muslim and Hindu communities at Bopodi came together on the occasions of Muharram and Ganesh festival.
Natraj Mitra Mandal observed Muharram and celebrated Ganeshotsav with the intention of spreading harmony and brotherhood. The mandal performed all the rituals related to the Ganeshotsav and Muharram, which included distributing prasad and making the taziya.
One of the members of the mandal pointed out that vegetarian food was served during Niyaz as a sign of respect for the Hindu brothers.

Besides, the Hindu community actively participated in the Muharram proceedings by accepting the offerings and reciting verses from The Holy Quran.
The objective of attaining unity by Lokmanya Tilak seems to have been accomplished under one roof. The brotherhood is a perfect example of ‘The New India’, where everyone believes in the concept of unity and embraces each other’s cultural values.
It indeed showed that no matter what our beliefs are, we stand together and come from the same roots. It was also a fulfilment of Mahatma Gandhi’s dream when he stated, “Hindu-Muslim unity, khaddar and removal of untouchability are to me the foundation of Swaraj.”
