HYDERABAD: In a bid to increase legal awareness and help the villagers of Gudimamidipalle and Nandigama realise their legal rights, Symbiosis Law School Hyderabad is conducting activities under their community outreach programme SCOPe.
"The impact of such work is that the rural people and those who can be easily exploited by the ones in power are more clear about their rights.
It also helps us understand the different ways in which we can help connect with all the sections of the society," said Sabarinath S, a law student.
Several programmes are being held in villages to get people acquainted with legal knowledge and computer literacy. "In the last five years, a lot has changed in our village. Awareness camps by the college have helped us stay connected with the rules and processes of the rest of the society," said Murithi M, a resident of Gudimamidipalle. "Other than getting to know about our land and family rights, we were also educated about the ill effects of using chulhas, so now we use fuel-efficient cooking stoves."
Villagers say that the laws taught by the students have helped them deal with land issues. "We keep facing land issues, because not everyone knows about the laws related to them, these students have made it easier for us while teaching the laws and explaining the points to us in our language", said Jayath Prakash, a village resident.
