Marngrook

NITV, 7.30pm

There's something hugely satisfying to me – and, I hope, to everyone involved in this show – that Marngrook goes from strength to strength while other footy shows have stumbled and fallen. It's certainly been an important year for Indigenous players and the game's embrace of them (or otherwise) – and some of the most powerful and insightful commentary on The Final Quarter and The Australian Dream has happened on the Marngrook desk. But while this show doesn't shy away from getting political – and it always takes the sport seriously – it's also always very entertaining. As this is the final show of the year, expect everything, from star players to special musical guests, to be supersized.

Gogglebox

Ten, 8.30pm

"We need another war. To give men something to do." It's impossible to come away from an episode of Gogglebox without collecting some kind of bon mot and part of the fun of this show is you never know where it's going to come from, or what's going to prompt it. And thanks to the careful selection of shows our Goggleboxers watch – a finely balanced mix of the sublime and the ridiculous – it also provides a fascinating insight into the attitudes of a range of ordinary Australians on hot-button contemporary issues. And again, who adheres to which values is often not what you'd expect.
