19 injured as bus hits electric post in Wayanad

The condition of none of the passengers injured is serious, according to police.

WAYANAD: Nineteen passengers were injured when a Bengaluru-bound luxury private bus turned turtle after slipping off the road and hit at an electric post at Madakkimala near Kalpetta in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The mishap occurred in front of a timber depot at Madakkimala. Soon after the incident the bus was lifted using the crane of the saw mill and rescued the passengers who were trapped in the bus. Those injured in the mishap were rushed to a private hospital in Kalpetta by the local people and Fire and Rescue force personnel who reached the spot.

The condition of none of the passengers injured is serious, according to police.

The reason for the accident might be careless driving as the driver may have fallen asleep during the ride, it is suspected. Police registered a case against the bus driver for careless driving.
