Delhi government to pay CBSE exam fees of its school students: Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on twitter that Delhi government will bear the cost of examination fee for the CBSE Class X and XII board exams for government school students.
The proposal of the Department of Education (DoE) was approved by the cabinet on Wednesday, that the exam fee of 3.4 lakh government school students will be reimbursed by the government.

After CBSE hiked the exam fee for its students in August, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had stated that the schools were instructed not to charge CBSE board fees from the students. “Delhi government will pay the CBSE board examination fees of all students of Classes X and XII in government schools,” Sisodia tweeted along with an order copy issued by DoE.
On Wednesday, Kejriwal said on social media that the responsibility of education of each child of Delhi is his own. “The government will pay the expensive CBSE fees for students from all categories studying in Classes X and XII in Delhi government schools. Education of each Delhi students is our responsibility and we won’t allow any students’ studies geto t affected because of financial reasons.”
The education board in August had hiked the fees after a gap of five years and has come in for strong criticism. For Class X, CBSE has increased fees of SC/ ST students studying in Delhi government/ aided schools from Rs 375 to Rs 1,200, and for general category students from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500. For Class XII, SC/ST students will have to pay Rs 1,200 instead of the earlier Rs 600.
