LUCKNOW: Hardoi police on Wednesday, said investigators will soon recreate the crime scene and sequence of events that led to the death of a Dalit youth, Monu, whose charred body was found inside a locked room late Saturday.
With the case bordering around honour killing, police said there were stark contradictions between the dying declaration of Monu and details of FIR lodged by his uncle Raju.
Also, statements of the accused named in the FIR have a different story to tell. Monu died on way to Lucknow hospital on Sunday.
"We will recreate the scene of crime in the presence of forensic experts, complainant and the accused to establish the sequence of events that took place before and after Monu suffered burns," said superintendent of police (SP) Hardoi, Alok Priyadarshi. "We have asked experts of Forensic Science Lab (FSL) Lucknow to come to Hardoi," he said.
Police said the forensic report will help investigators conclusively deduce exact time of crime and origin of fire that charred Monu. "In his dying declaration, Monu stated he reached the locality at around 11.30 pm when he was held hostage and burnt alive. In the FIR, his uncle stated Monu reached the site at around 8.30 pm. The girl, who's named in the FIR, has also given three different accounts of the event. Her aunt and uncle have not been consistent with their statements," said SP Hardoi Priyadarshi.
He said statements of other eye-witnesses, including those who live near the room where Monu died will be recorded.
