Katrina Kaif and Arjun Kapoor are the latest Bollywood stars to extend their support to the ongoing #SaveAarey campaign in Mumbai city. The two actors have not only raised their voice against the government’s decision to raze trees to build a Metro car shed in the area, but have also spoken against the destruction of the green cover in the name of “development.”
Speaking at an event in the city, Katrina drew reference to the recent forest fires in the Amazon basin and expressed her concerns saying, "I believe we all need to do our bit to protect the environment.
What we just saw happen in the Amazon is something which is really concerning. I think now the problem is really so much in our face that we can no longer ignore it. So, I think everyone needs to wake up and be conscious about what is happening because now it has come to the point where we will start seeing the adverse effect that is going to have upon us."

Joining the actress was fellow Bollywood actor and bestie Arjun Kapoor who compared the cutting of the tress to “taking out the lungs of Mumbai.”
The actor, who had also joined the chorus of stars raising awareness about the Amazon fires said, "I feel development is a good thing but if you are doing it at the cost of nature then it's a complete disaster. It's not development and it can be called as regression so, whatever is happening with Aarey, I am not very keen on it. I don't think our trees should be cut and trees over there for hundreds of years. If you cut trees of Aarey Colony, it's like taking out lungs of the Mumbai so, it's very important for us to stand up and make sure that there is another route that people take for that Metro project."

Aarey is at the centre of a raging protest over felling of trees for a metro depot. Activists are opposing the proposed felling of over 2,700 trees in to make way for the shed and is demanding relocation of the project.

The Aarey Colony, measuring 1,287 hectares and located adjoining the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is known as a major green lung of the metropolis.
Several Bollywood personalities and politicians have also extended their support to the activists protesting against the project.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan found themselves at the receiving end of angry netizens who seemed unimpressed with their tweets that were viewed as a PR stunt and accused the stars of supporting the destruction of the forest.
