LUCKNOW:
Azamgarh police have arrested three persons for allegedly selling
stolen vehicles online on Thursday.
Those arrested were identified as-
Anshdeep,
Ankit Yadav, and
Sarvind Yadav. The trio were arrested from Narauli bridge in Kotwali police station area on Thursday evening. Cops also recovered nine bikes.
Azamgarh police began working upon the case after two cases of men being defrauded on online websites was reported at Jahanganj police station area of Azamgarh last month.
Police said the gang has a pan-india presence and was stealing vehicles across India and then advertising on online selling websites using fake identities. In most of the case, they posed as army officers or policemen.
Explaining the modus-operandi Azamagarh superintendent of police
Triveni Singh said, “The gang made three teams. The first team is involved in stealing the vehicles. The second team was engaged in creating fake documents, aadhar card, registration certificate and insurance of the car using Photoshop software. The third team used to post the picture and fake documents on online sites and targeted customers. Posing as security official they offered vehicles at half the price claiming that they were being transferred," said Singh.
The gang not only illegally sold stolen vehicles but also duped the buyers by taking the money from them and promising to deliver the vehicles with documents in some time. They sold one vehicle to multiple people.
Azamgarh police has also sent a notice to Olx which was misused in this case.
"We have sought their details action plan on how they are going to check criminal activities on their platform. How they are ensuring proper KYC of customers. They have also been asked to furnish their tax payment details as so many products are sold every day," said the SP, Azamgarh.
