Lincoln edges WHS tennis team 5-4 on Wednesday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Sioux Falls Lincoln won four of six singles matches en route to a slim 5-4 victory over Worthington Wednesday in high school girls tennis.

Worthington got singles wins from Kessey Aljets at No. 1 and Maggie Putnam at No. 5. Aljets and Ivy Jenson won at No. 1 doubles and Putnam and Cynthia Souksavath won at No. 3 doubles.

Aljets won her top singles match 7-6 (8), 1-6, 7-4 over Bergen Quello, and Putnam won her match 6-1, 6-1 against Katie Johnson. In doubles, Aljets and Jenson won 6-0, 6-3 over Quello and Ree Baireeddy, and Putnam and Souksavath won their match 6-4, 6-4 over Johnson and Aya Naoe.

Jenson lost her No. 2 singles match 2-6, 0-6 to Baireeddy. Marah Darling lost 2-6, 2-6 at No. 3 singles to Evy Osterloo. Taya Oberloh lost 4-6, 0-6 to Emma Derynck. And Souksavath lost 5-7, 2-6 to Naoe.

Darling and Oberloh teamed up at No. 2 doubles and lost 2-6, 0-6 to Derynck and Osterloo.
