Prep roundup: Tigers sweep Mustangs, GFW, MVL pick up wins, New Ulm tennis loses to BEA, NU Boys’ soccer falls

BLHS 0

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

BLHS was led by Allison Dornseif, who had five digs, two blocks, 14 set assists and one kill. Also for BLHS, Katie Buboltz had 15 digs and one kill, Emilie Hable had four digs, one block, five kills and four aces and Sara Kottke had three digs, two blocks and seven kills.

For Springfield, Eva Mark had 33 set assists, two blocks and 13 digs. Kora Wahl had six kills, four blocks and 10 digs. Mya Mickelson finished with 10 digs and Cylee Graff had 14 kills, two blocks and 12 digs. Courtney Wendt had seven kills, one block and 15 digs and Anna Mattson had six kills and six digs.

Springfield hosts Redwood Valley at 7 p.m. on Monday.

GFW 3,

Cedar Mountain 0

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop swept Cedar Mountain 25-9, 25-17, 25-10 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

GFW was led by Shelby Ramirez, who had nine kills, two blocks and 11 digs. Also for GFW, Brynn Busse had 22 set assists, Julia Schweiss had 29 kills and Kaity Lee had 21 digs.

For Cedar Mountain, Mykenna Vollmer had six kills, nine digs and two assists, Morgan Engholm had 29 digs, Hailey Hollar had five kills, seven assists and 12 digs and Nadia Meyers had six digs, five assists and two kills.

GFW plays on Saturday at the Sibley East Tournament.

MVL 3, Sleepy Eye 0

SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran swept Sleepy Eye 25-16, 25-20, 27-25 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Mara Weisensel led MVL with 23 kills and six blocks. Maddie Pearson had 36 set assists and 14 digs, Emma Nelson had seven kills and 14 digs and Abbie Reiderer and Lili Mohror each had five kills for the Chargers.

Sleepy Eye’s Alexa Steffl had nine kills and eight digs, Mckenna Strong had five kills, five digs and two blocks, Maranda Braulick had 12 digs and two aces and Sandy Flores had 12 set assists and 14 digs.

MVL (9-3, 4-0) plays at Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Sleepy Eye hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Loyola 3, Madelia 2

MADELIA — Mankato Loyola defeated Madelia 22-25,19-25, 25-13, 25-21, 16-14 on Thursday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

For Madelia, Malia Schwanke had 10 aces, three kills and 13 digs. Brooke Lensing had three aces, 11 kills and six digs, Lillian Maul had three aces, nine kills and 22 digs, Emily Stevenson had eight aces, eight kills, 23 digs and 34 set assists and Dora Facundo had two aces and 29 digs.

Madelia (0-13, 0-4) plays at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman.

Girls’ tennis

BEA 7, New Ulm 0

BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth Area defeated New Ulm in a Big South Conference girls’ tennis match on Thursday.

Makiah Otto lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Abby Hietala lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Malia Emerson lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Lydia King lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. four singles.

BEA also swept the doubles competition.

Boys’ soccer

Waseca 2, New Ulm 0

WASECA — The New Ulm boys’ soccer team dropped a 2-0 match to Waseca on Thursday in Big South Conference action.

New Ulm’s Josh Rakoczy had nine saves in the loss.

New Ulm hosts Mound Westonka at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
