PATNA: A police team led by Siwan SP Naveen Chandra Jha arrested a notorious criminal Golu Singh and his associate after an encounter early on Thursday morning. Illegal weapons and raw material used for making bombs were seized from them.
Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out a raid in the house of one Golu Singh at Madhopur village under G B Nagar police station area around 2 am on Thursday.
On seeing the police, criminals started indiscriminate firing.
Police retaliated the shots and forced two of them—Golu Singh and his uncle Vikas Singh— to surrender with their illegal firearms and explosives. However, two others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Siwan SP Jha said that Golu, who was released on bail recently, was earlier booked in cases of Arms Act, robbery and dacoity. “Police raided his house on the intelligence inputs that some criminals have assembled there to chalk out a strategy to commit a major crime,” he said.
One country-made pistol, two magazines, two live cartridges and bag containing bomb-making material were seized during the police operation. The SP said that no police official was injured in the firing.
