Stripes have always been popular with fashionistas, who have been smitten by the nautical look especially during summer. They are bold, dramatic and make a statement, grabbing eyeballs because they spell effortless style with comfort. The best part is the striped look is easy to put together, and looks great on all body types. We asked stylists to give us pointers and tips to pull off this patterned look.

Whether you want to keep it simple, yet dramatic or stylish yet elegant, stripes can help you achieve that look with elan.The plus point? It never goes out of style. Sahil Gulati, a stylist shares, “Stripes are a unisex, classic trend, which come into fashion every now and then with new modifications and aesthetics. Earlier, stripes were mostly worn as formal wear, however, now they are worn in western, Indian and contemporary styles like pant suits, dresses, gowns, salwar kameez, saris, etc. And while they look great, they can be tricky. It works only if worn right as per your body type and personality. If you have a tall frame like Kriti Sanon, you should avoid sporting vertical pattern stripes, while a curvaceous actor like Shikha Talsania should avoid horizontal stripes.”

CHOOSING THE RIGHT STRIPES FOR YOUR BODY TYPE
Another reason why striped fashion never goes out of style is because the classic trend suits all body types. Stylist Khyati Busa shares, “Stripes can help create an illusion to look taller or broader. The thickness of the stripes can make a lot of difference. For example, someone who is short could wear vertical stripes, and someone who is petite, could sport horizontal stripes to look broader. Stripes work on all body types. It just depends on how smartly you use it to create the desired effect you are looking for.” Stylist Isha Bhansali agrees and adds, “My favourite kind of stripes are the block stripes worn here by Shraddha Kapoor and Dia Mirza. Due to their thickness and colour blocking, they’re great at cutting down extra curves, giving a sharp shape to your body.

They also look bolder and stronger and give a more tailored look to the outfit.” However, when it comes to overall styling, Isha picked Malaika Arora for her well-styled and effortless look. Alia Bhatt, too, stands out in her striped ankle-length shirt dress in red and pink tones. Dramatic puffed sleeves and an oversized belt cinched at the waist with its large red buckle add to her ensemble.
