A new hostel for Magadh Mahila College
It was a happy moment for the entire members of Magadh Mahila College when chief minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation of their new hostel. It will have ample amenities for girls and it will look like Bapu Sabhaghar, which is just beside the college. Currently, the old hostel lacks proper facilities and students are dissatisfied with it.
Over Rs 31 crore will be spent to construct the building which will have accommodation facility for 639 girls.
Dr Shashi Sharma, principal of the college, said, “We had a requirement of 800-bed hostel, which could not happen due to space constraints. However, I am thankful to government for supporting girl education in the state. We also need to work on the infrastructure inside the college for the convenience of the girls. Currently, our e-library has only 24 computers, but we need around 100 computers. There are other such requirements too. If such facilities are provided, it will be convenient for these students pursuing their education.”
Sharing similar views, Dr Rash Bihari Prasad, vice-chancellor, Patna University, said, “In our university, we have over 60% of girls and that is a great achievement for the state. We must provide them with ample facilities, so that they continue to make us proud.”
The students are also happy with the support given by the government. Supriya Sharma, a second-year student of the college, said, “Besides other facilities, we are also provided with a helpline number, where we can contact immediately in case of emergency. We can also drop an e-mail mentioning our problems. We request the concerned authorities to take note and do the needful.”
