MORRISVILLE –  Novan has received a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to support its cancer research program, the company said in a statement Friday.

The grant will assist the development of a product to treat cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, a condition that can potentially lead to cervical cancer in women.

Novan previously received a $223,000 grant from the National Institute of Health for the development of a separate product, though both products represent core initiatives in Novan’s women’s health unit, the company said.

Novan is a clinical development-stage biotechnology company based in Morrisville, North Carolina.
