NEW DELHI: A couple going to New Delhi Railway Station was chased and robbed at gunpoint on Friday morning. Even after the woman threw her gold chain on the road, they were trailed by the criminals from Janpath to Connaught Place. The victims tried to speed away on their scooter, but lost their balance and suffered fractures.
The ordeal of the couple didn’t end there.
When they called the police control room, cops from three police stations, instead of helping them, kept arguing about jurisdiction. The couple allegedly had to wait for nearly five hours before their statement was recorded by a team from Connaught Place police station.

“We are trying to track the suspects. We will look at the allegations about the jurisdiction issue once the couple approaches us,” said additional DCP (New Delhi) Deepak Yadav.
Victim Vinod Singh Bhandari said, “We were in a hurry as my wife had to board Shatabdi Express. We realised the criminals had been following us from the India Gate C-Hexagon. They tried to snatch my wife’s chain, but failed since she was wearing a dupatta.”
On Kasturba Gandhi Marg, the woman, Amrita Bohra, tried to alert morning walkers about being chased by the robbers, but to no avail. After a short distance, the men drew near and pointed a gun at Bhandari. They asked them to hand over their belongings. The couple panicked and Bhandari started speeding, but the criminals continued to chase them.

To stop the criminals from chasing them, Bohra threw her gold chain on the road. However, the men picked it up and continued following them. “While taking a turn, I dropped a bag containing money. I decided to take a U-turn to pick it up, but saw the criminals and panicked. In the process, the scooter skidded and we fell down. The criminals then sped away,” Bhandari said.
Bohra waved to a few car drivers for help, but no one stopped. About 10 minutes later, an elderly man and three women passing by helped them call the police. “The PCR team took us to Lady Hardinge Hospital for treatment, but left saying that a team from the local police station would arrive soon,” Bhandari added.
When a team from Connaught Place police station reached the hospital, the cops said the case had to be registered at Tilak Marg. Cops from Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations kept passing the buck to each other for five hours before an FIR was registered around noon. Bohra will have to undergo surgery on Saturday for a fracture in her shoulder.
