Most feature phones (simple phones with physical buttons) typically run on alternative software such as KaiOS. However, a blogger has posted a video of what appears to be one of these devices running Android. This phone, linked to the brand Nokia, may be released with a ROM based on an older version of this OS: Oreo (8.1).

Feature phones are those mobile phones that tend to have buttons or other methods of input besides the full-coverage touchscreen, and are often more cost-effective compared to these devices. They may be linked to certain disadvantages, however. They include being out of reach of the convenience and features associated with major smartphone systems such as are iOS or Android, with which their feature-phone counterpart KaiOS is only now just starting to catch up.

To this end, it now appears that Nokia, the classic source of the feature phone, has decided to develop a new buttoned device that runs Android. This rumor comes courtesy of the platform Steemit, on which a new video posted by the user rider95 shows what is claimed to be such a small device from this brand using a familiar UI with Google apps.

As intriguing a prospect as this is, the clip may crystallize the reasons Android is usually installed on all-display devices with more scope for RAM and storage chips. The device seems rather sluggish, particularly as it is restricted to its D-pad for navigation through and use of the system. Furthermore, the version of the OS in question is alleged to be Oreo (8.1), which puts the putative new feature-phone 2 whole major updates behind.
