GAYA: Pappu Kumar, a 23-year-old villager from Rauna village of the Konch police station area of the district, on Wednesday evening was bitten by a cobra. The young man died shortly thereafter.
Reports say that local doctors pronounced him dead. But the family members refused to admit the reality and approached a faith healer who promised miracle. Even four days later, the dead man laid in state with a holy book placed on his chest.
Instead of cremating the young man, the family members including Rambali Parjapati, father of the snake bite victim kept the body in a room made inaccessible to everyone except the faith healer and the dead man’s father.

On Friday, a police team reached the village to get the body cremated. But the cops returned back as the family did not allow the police to visit the room where the body was kept.
According to Abhishekh Kumar Singh SHO of the Konch police station, the snake bite victim’s father told the police that he does not believe that his son is dead and would perform the last rites once he was convinced that his son was no more. Right now the faith healer was doing his job and the father did not want to go against the faith healer’s dictates.
When contacted Manoj Kumar, the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Tekari, he said he was not aware of any such incident but now will take follow up action.
