Muzaffarpur cop shot, arms looted

MUZAFFARPUR: Motorcycle-borne criminals gunned down a head constable, Maleshwar Ram, and looted his carbine at a checkpoint near Markan Chowk along National Highway- 28 under Sakra police station here on Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place when Ram, along with four other policemen, was conducting a vehicle-check drive near Markan Chowk.
An eyewitness said two motorcycle-borne criminals, coming from the direction of Muzaffarpur town, first opened indiscriminate fire at head constable Ram who fell to the ground after being hit thrice on the head and chest.
“The criminals then snatched his carbine before making good their escape,” the eyewitness said. Ram was first taken to Sakra PHC and was later brought to a nursing home where he was declared brought dead.
Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar said: “We will be able to comment after visiting the site of the incident and talking to the other police officers.” He said all exit routes have been sealed and raids were on to nab the culprits.
