Ireland striker David McGoldrick has emerged as a potential injury concern for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder confirmed that his forward missed yesterday’s 2-0 win at Everton with a hamstring strain.

The injury will also keep him out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Sunderland and Wilder didn't put a timescale on his return.

McGoldrick has been a key part of Ireland’s revival under Mick McCarthy.

Having played for McCarthy at Ipswich Town, the 31-year-old has established himself as the main striker under the new regime and scored a vital equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland just over two weeks ago.

Ireland lead their group by two points heading into the final three games. They face Georgia in Tbilisi on October 12 before travelling to Geneva for the return game against the Swiss four days later.
