With 6:52 remaining in the third quarter, Washington State led UCLA 49-17. It looked like Chip Kelly’s Bruins — who scored exactly 14 points in each of their first three games — were headed for a fourth straight loss to start the season. They would go on to win 67-63.

That’s because UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson burst into flames. His team scored touchdowns on six straight possessions, at one point scoring 29 points in four and a half minutes. He had some serious help, as wide receiver Demetric Felton had a 94-yard touchdown catch to go with his 100-yard kick return from the first half.

UCLA had to score basically every time, as Washington State didn’t totally collapse on offense. A 65-yard pass from Anthony Gordon to Max Borghi put Wazzu up 63-60 with six minutes left.

UCLA had its touchdown streak snapped the next possession, electing to go for it on 4th and 5 rather than kicking a 36-yard field goal with just under three minutes left. But Washington State fumbled two plays later, and possession was given to UCLA after a lengthy review.

With a minute left, Thompson-Robinson connected with Felton again, hitting him in the flat for what ended up being the game-winner.

Keisean Lucier-South forced a fumble on the very next play to clinch it.

Thompson-Robinson threw for 507 yards and five touchdowns, and wasn’t even close to the most prolific quarterback in Pullman on Saturday night. Washington State’s Anthony Gordon threw for 570 yards and nine touchdowns. The nine TDs broke a Gardner Minshew II school record, but they somehow weren’t enough.
