Tennessee's backup QB looks perplexed by push-button phone, video goes viral

Tennessee's Neyland Stadium

During Saturday's 34-3 blowout loss to Florida, Tennessee's backup quarterback made an embarassing blunder that put the team in an even more unfortunate light.

J.T. Shrout was shown on the sideline during ESPN's broadcast picking up an entire push-button telephone and putting it up to his ear.

Obviously push-button phones haven't been a staple in many homes for years, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out how to pick up a phone. The phones are also used all around the NCAA for players, especially quarterbacks, to communicate with coaches.

Of course, social media had a field day with Shrout's faux pas.

It's unclear if Shrout was joking or just checking to see if the phone was ringing, but it's not a positive look for the state of the team.
