In the opening pages of her first book she writes: “When you first quit sugar, you must quit ALL of it.”

Eve Simmons, who wrote the article about Ms Wilson’s return to the sweet side, said she was sick of “off the record wellness bloggers who push out pics of perfectly lit vegetables in the name of health whilst hiding their own messed-up eating problems.”

“Of course there’s absolutely no shame in any mental health problem, and speaking as a survivor of one, it would serve our health far better if these people would just be honest about their real problems rather than masking them with pseudoscientific food rules,” she tweeted.

Ms Wilson’s new book, First We Make The Beast Beautiful, tells of the 45-year-old author’s “lifelong battles with mental illness”

It also offers advice to fellow sufferers.
