NAVI MUMBAI: Three metal coils being transported on a trailer fell off causing traffic congestion for four hours on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday morning.
The chains with which the coils had been fastened snapped as the trailer was close to Amrutanjan bridge near Lonavla around 7am. A truck, which was behind the trailer, dashed into one coil. No one was injured, said the police.
Assistant police inspector Subhash Pujari said that the trailer was in the second lane when the coils tumbled down on the left side and landed in the third lane, blocking the path of other vehicles.

A hydraulic crane was brought in to lift the metal coils and reload them onto the trailer. Due to this, other vehicles were allowed to ply in the first and middle lanes. This did not disrupt traffic movement although vehicles were moving at a snail’s pace as the accident spot turned out to a bottleneck which is anyway a narrow stretch, Pujari said, adding that vehicular movement was restored to normalcy around 11 am.
