MUMBAI: Two persons jumped off the second floor of the Maharashtra state secretariat building in Mumbai on Wednesday evening, landing on the safety net installed at the premises. They were seeking grants from the state government for their unaided schools.
The persons identified as Hemant Patil from Chalisgaon and Arun Netore from Osmanabad run Divyang Ashram Schools (residential). They are reportedly facing financial issues.
There are about 300 divyang/special ashram schools and over 350 teachers in Maharashtra.
“About 200 teachers along with few school operators came to meet social justice minister Suresh Khade however he didn’t hear our plea,” said Kondiba Bande, one of the teacher protesting at Mantralaya. He claimed that teachers in divyang schools are demanding state grant since the last 15 years.
