MUMBAI: A hotelier was attacked with iron rods outside his restaurant at Chakala, Andheri (E), allegedly by his rival early on Thursday. Within hours, crime branch (unit X) sleuths arrested hotelier Santosh Talekar (43) and his associate, Rakesh Giri, and handed them over to the MIDC police.
CCTV footage had captured Talekar and his three associates attacking Hariprasad Shetty (50) outside his restaurant.
Shetty, who suffered multiple injuries, is in the intensive care unit.
According to preliminary investigation, Talekar had planned revenge against Shetty, who owns Greeting Restaurant and Bar, after he beat him up. “When Talekar had visited Shetty’s bar two days back. the latter thrashed him as he suspected Talekar of tipping off the police, who would raid his hotel frequently at night,” said crime branch police inspector Sunil Mane.
On Thursday, around 2.30am, Talekar, who owns a hotel in Kalina, Giri, Abdul and Raja barged into Shetty’s restaurant. “They rained blows on Shetty. When he ran out of the restaurant, they caught him and beat him with iron rods,” said Mane. “Shetty’s staff identified Talekar, with the help of CCTV footage. This helped us track him down.” Talekar and Giri have been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).
