Robbie Robertson and Ringo Starr joined top musicians from ten different countries to do a cover version of "The Weight," a song from The Band's 1968 debut album Music From Big Pink.
The video for the song features Marcus King, Lukas Nelson, folk duo Larkin Poe and musicians from Italy, Japan, DR Congo, Bahrain, Spain, Hawaii, Argentina, Nepal and Jamaica.
The Playing For Change Foundation, which helps provide music education to young people around the world, put together the recording and the video.
Robertson's son Sebastian and Playing for Change co-founder Mark Johnson co-produced the track.
Johnson said having Starr take part in the recording was "a dream come true. He and Robbie really are a spark of what this whole project is about."
"The global unity in the Playing For Change concept is phenomenal. Collaboration in music is everything and this is the epitome of that," said Robertson.
"We're excited to share our newest Song Around the World, 'The Weight,' featuring musicians performing together across five continents," the foundation said. "Great songs can travel everywhere, bridging what divides us and inspiring us to see how easily we all get along when the music plays."
