WA Police help in massive New Zealand drug bust

Phil HickeyPerthNow

WA Police have played a major role in a massive drug bust in New Zealand which has resulted in the seizure of more than 200kg of methamphetamine.

Three men — including one Australian — have been arrested and 216kg of the drug was seized in Waikato this week.

The seizure was made after the New Zealand National Organised Crime Group, collaborating with WA Police, launched Operation Ali.

This week search warrants in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions uncovered the drugs, about $100,000 in cash, firearms and several vehicles.

“Information provided by our Western Australian counterparts has assisted our investigation and yielded a substantial seizure of methamphetamine,” Detective Inspector Paul Newman, of the National Organised Crime Group said.
