MUMBAI: Austrian performance-bike maker KTM launched the new 790 Duke in India today at an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.64 lakh.
The motorcycle has been launched in 9 cities and the network will be expanded to 30 cities next year.

The 798cc, twin-cylinder motorcycle will be imported into the country as a completely built unit and hence the steep price tag.

The motorcycle marks KTM's foray into the super bike segment in India, said Sumeet Narang, president, Pro-Biking, Bajaj Auto. Bajaj owns a stake in KTM and manufacturers and markets these motorcycles for India and neighbouring countries.

The growth of the super bikes segment, which includes motorcycles above 300cc engine capacity and Rs 3 lakh price, has been limited in India due to the absence of a wide sales network, Narang said. With KTM's network of over 460 showrooms in about 360 cities and towns should help this segment grow faster, he said.

KTM sold about 50,000 motorcycles during FY19 in India, it's largest market globally, and had a park of over 2 lakh motorcycles on road in the country. While the Indian automobile market is witnessing one of its worst years ever sales-wise, the Austrian marque has seen its sales grow over 30% year-to-date, said Narang.

The 790 Duke's engine produces maximum power of 105hp and maximum torque of 87Nm. It boasts a fully digital TFT gauge cluster and LED lights.
