Kate RyanPerthNow

The best places to live in Australia have been named, and Perth is right on top.

If you’re in areas from City Beach to Inglewood, through Kings Park to Mosman Park - you’re in some of the best places to live in the country, according the IPSOS Metropolitan Living in Australia report, published this month.

Inner Perth scored 68.6 out of 100 on the liveability scale above all other capital cities in Australia. Adelaide’s Central Hills came in second with a score of 67 and Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs rounded out the third most liveable with 65.8.

Just under 10,000 people were surveyed Australia wide, asked to rate their suburb out of 10 in 16 areas, including feeling safe, quality of health services, affordability of housing, job prospects, public transport and access to the natural environment - which were found to be the most important issues.

Perth mother Sophie Janicki, 29 who was out with her bay, Isla at Hyde Park, said it’s the easy access to nature, as well as shopping and facilities that has drawn her to the area.

“After having Isla, and then joining a mother’s group, there’s so many young couples and young families in this particular corridor, and that’s something I’ve noticed over the last five years, it’s expanded so much,” she said.

“Compared to a lot of other suburbs, like west, or south west, I don’t think they have the same demographic, and I think the location, the access to the city and all the amenities around here have just drawn such a good population, and they’re all around the same age, and that’s sort of feeding back into what’s happening here.”

However, according to IPSOS, other WA cities didn’t fare as well. While a Perth region claimed top honours, another region of Perth claimed the lowest score.

Perth’s North East was found to be the least liveable in Perth, with feeling safe coming out as an issue for residents in that area.

“Perth’s North West came in at seventh most liveable (of 42 regions) followed by Perth’s South West at 13th. ” Daniel Evans, Deputy Managing Director of IPSOS said.

“Regional Western Australia did not have any regions in the top ten most liveable, with Mandurah its highest performer at 21st out of 42 regional areas. Bunbury came in 23rd. The Wheat Belt was rated the 36th most liveable, the least liveable in regional Western Australia.” He said.
