Part of the fun of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom comes before even entering the gates to the park: creating a unique costume to share with other Disney visitors.
As usual, this year’s event featured tons of get-ups inspired by Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies, including “Peter Pan,” “Toy Story” and “The Avengers.”
Abigail Alsmeyer of St. Louis and Madeline Ritter of Orlando dressed as their favorite Disney characters, Mary Poppins and Rapunzel, respectively. The two said their moms created the costumes for them and that they’ve made a tradition of dressing as these fictional women but have “stepped up their game.”
“Last year, I was the nanny,” Alsmeyer said. “This year, I’m ‘Jolly Holiday’ Mary.”
There were also many ride-inspired costumes, with the Haunted Mansion proving to be a popular muse. Mother-daughter duo Rachel and Madelyn Hollingsworth dressed as Constance, the ghost bride featured in the attraction.
“I let her [Madelyn] pick our costumes every year,” Rachel said. “Somehow it always ends up being ‘Haunted Mansion’-themed.”
Others were just inspired by Walt Disney World in general, especially Jennifer and Holly Eckman from Mississippi, who said they opted for the large FastPasses around their necks because it was easy, would allow them to ride attractions comfortably and wouldn’t increase the sweat factor.
Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is an extra-ticket event, which runs select nights through Nov. 1 at Magic Kingdom. Single-night tickets for the event range between $79 and $135, depending on the date. For more information, visit disneyworld.com.
