Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 21, 2019 (ZIZ News): A fruits and vegetable fair got underway near the Circus in downtown Basseterre on Wednesday as part of Caribbean Wellness Week.

The event formed part of activities held for Fruits and Vegetable Day which was observed in St. Kitts on Wednesday under the theme, “Fruit and Vegetable Day”.

The Fruits and Vegetable Fair gave vendors the opportunity to place their local foods and drinks on display.

During the exhibition, patrons were able to receive information from educational presentations on healthier food options to replace excess fats, sugars and salts.

The Fair featured a Butternut Squash Dessert competition where chefs from the various restaurants on island competed for the best tasting recipe. Kittitian Hill emerged winner of the competition with crowd favourite butternut squash cheesecakes and macaroons.

Caribbean Wellness Week is the first of many events organized under the SKN Moves Initiative, which was recently launched in St. Kitts and Nevis to increase physical activity, healthy eating and regular health checks in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

This year’s Caribbean Wellness Week was celebrated under the theme ‘Healthy Aging Starts Now.’
