Negotiating the inundated Mysuru Road stretch in front of RR Nagar arch was no mean feat for motorists and walkers on Monday.
BENGALURU: After overnight rain, motorists and pedestrians woke up to a nightmare on the Mysuru Road stretch in front of Rajarajeshwarinagar (RR Nagar) arch.
A mall on the stretch draws huge crowds and shoppers had to do a a tightrope walk on the broken pavement. With the road leading to Sports Authority of India campus, sportspersons, especially paraatheletes, had to literally wade through sewage-laced rainwater that flooded the street.
“It’s due to poor planning by all civic agencies as they wake up only after the city receives rain and slip back into slumber mode.
BBMP should have taken up silt removal from shoulder drains and BWSSB should have cleaned manholes. One brief spell of rain is enough to leave this stretch in a mess,” rued Narasimha Swamy who regularly commutes on Mysuru Road.
Another commuter, Ramachandrappa, said according to BBMP, the half-done whitetopping work on Mysuru Road is also adding to the mess. “Officials don’t show the same zeal in completing work like they display while taking it up. Driving two-wheelers on the slushy road is very risky,” he added.
An under-construction footpath, ongoing Metro work and open stormwater drain is a huge problem on the stretch.
RR Nagar chief engineer N Vijaykumar blamed the Metro work. “The entire stretch from Nayandahalli till Kengeri has been dug up and even light rain is enough to create problems for motorists and pedestrians. We are holding talks with Metro officials to ensure the stretch is restored and made motorable,” he added.
