NAGPUR: An SUV in former Union minister of state for home
Hansraj Ahir's security convoy rammed into a truck after its driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to save a stray monkey near Jamb junction on the Chandrapur-Wardha highway early on Thursday.
The driver of the SUV and a CRPF jawan died while five other people sustained injuries in the mishap.
Ahir was heading towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur at the time of the accident.
The former minister was not in the ill-fated vehicle.
Ahir said that the driver of his security convoy had to take a sharp turn which led to the accident.
"I had to attend a meeting in Delhi at 5pm," he said.
Dr Anup Marar of Orange City Hospital, where Ahir brought the injured persons, said that two of them were declared brought dead.
"Three injured people are still in critical condition. Former minister Ahir is safe, " he said.
Police said investigation was underway to ascertain the exact cause behind the accident.
