PATNA: Police on Thursday arrested two youths on charges of raping an 18-year-old girl. Though the incident took place on September 17 on Station Road in Gopalganj town, the survivor lodged an FIR with the women’s police station on Wednesday against four youths. The four other accused are still absconding.
The girl’s statement was recorded before a special POCSO court on Thursday and she was sent for medical examination.
“The medical report is awaited,” Gopalganj SP Manoj Kumar Tiwari said.
The survivor told the police that she was accosted by six youths while returning home from a fair on the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja on September 17. The accused took her to a deserted lane and then took turns to rape her.
She narrated her ordeal to her mother when she returned home late in the night. The family couldn’t muster courage to report the incident to the police as the accused had threatened her with dire consequences. One of the six accused, Sandeep, was acquainted with the victim’s family.
The SP said raids were on to nab the other four accused. An FSL team visited the spot and collected samples from the survivor’s clothes. “The age of the survivor is being ascertained by a team of doctors,” Tiwari added.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
