GAYA: At least six persons have died in different incidents of house collapse as Gaya has got more than 20% of the annual rainfall in last three days. Against the average annual rainfall of 1134 mm, the district recorded about 250 mm in the last three days.
All seasonal rivers in the district are in spate. A disaster management control room has also been established in Gaya town for round- the- clock monitoring of the situation.
People in distress can call the control room at 0631-2222259.
Of the six deaths due to house- collapse, two each have been reported from Imamganj and Paraiya police station areas of the district. One eight-year-old child was killed due to house collapse in village Lohdi of the Imamganj police station area. Another death has been reported from Salaiya Panchayat of the same Imamganj police station area. One death each has been reported from Konch and Atri police station areas.
Meanwhile, rainwater entered the Railway Hospital premises in Gaya town. Hospital’s superintendent Dr DK Sahay, however, said the indoor patients were safe but there was possibility of inundation with continuous rainfall. Also, Durga Bari locality of the town has become inaccessible on account of heavy water logging in the area.
Gaya municipal commissioner Sawan Kumar said rainwater was being drained out from the Durga Bari area. “We are looking into finding a permanent solution to waterlogging problem in Durga Bari area. Nonetheless, waterlogging has been happening in the past as well and there was nothing to worry on that count," he said.
Heavy waterlogging was also reported in Jamuawan Panchayat of Wazirganj block on account of blocked water outlets. Several truckloads of debris dumped in the water outlet has been removed to de- silt the outlet, following which situation eased. Gaya Sadar SDO Sateyndra Kumar Gupta supervised the entire operation.
