Weather today: Waterlogging in Bihar due to heavy rain
At least 13 people have been killed in Bihar in incidents related to heavy rainfall in the state. Heavy rains continue to hit the state capital Patna where three days of unprecedented downpour has flooded homes and hospitals. According to weather department, Patna has received more than 200 mm of rainfall since Friday evening. At least 13 persons have died after buildings collapsed and trees fell on them due to incessant rain in Patna, Bhagalpur and Kaimur districts of Bihar. Eighty-seven people have died in neighbouring UP in four days in rain-related incidents in the state.

Fourteen more people have died in Uttar Pradesh today in rain-related incidents, NDTV's Alok Pandey reports. This means the total number of deaths in the state has jumped to 87 since Thursday. Incidents of flooding have been reported from districts in eastern UP. House collapses and wall collapses have emerged as the major reasons of deaths amid heavy rainfall in the state.

Bihar government issues red alert- The weather department has predicted more rain in the next 24 hours and the state government has issued a 'red alert'.
- The water level in major rivers including Ganga, Koshi, Gandak, Bagmati, Mahananda, are on the rise, threatening to breach embankments at many places.
- The water resources department has alerted the concerned officials and asked the district authorities to take measures to deal with any possibility.
- The Centre has already deployed teams of National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force for rescue and relief operations in vulnerable places.
- According to weather department officials, state capital Patna has received 151 mm rain since Saturday -- a record in recent years.
- Patna is now facing a flood-like situation with water is all around. People have been forced to stay indoors as most of the roads in the narrow lanes were water-logged.
- Boats are being deployed in several localities to help people.
- "This is the first time I have seen boats plying on the water-logged roads in Patna, it is new for us," Sanket Jha, a college student of Rajendra Nagar colony, said.
- "Entire Patna is water-logged because of choked drainage. It has caused havoc in residential localities and exposed the Patna Municipal Corporation," Lakhender Mahto, a retired school teacher, told IANS here.
- The rain has also affected the movement of trains, road traffic as well as flight operations. Twelve long route trains and several passenger trains have been cancelled.
- There were reports of damage to the National Highways at several places in north Bihar districts.
- The flood water has also entered houses, shops and hospitals at many places in the state.
- According to reports, water entered the residence of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi in Rajendra Nagar.
- Water also made its way to the residence former Chief Minister Satender Narayan Singh on Boring road, BJP MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy, and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi in Patna.
- In another video shared on social media, a rickshaw puller is seen stranded in floodwater, crying as he continues to pull the rickshaw, feeling helpless.
- The flood situation in the capital city of Bihar is unprecedented, many users said on social media, seeking help from the administration and accusing authorities of apathy.

- Heavy downpour in different parts of Bihar since Friday has disrupted normal life, affecting rail traffic, healthcare facilities and schools. At least 13 trains were cancelled this morning. Delays were also reported on several routes.
- In Patna, where the weather office has predicted heavy rain till September 30, the district administration has ordered closure of all schools till Tuesday.
- Visuals showed waterlogging at Nalanda Medical College Hospital, the second largest healthcare facility in Patna. "Localities like Rajendra Nagar and S K Puri are the worst affected," District Magistrate Kumar Ravi told reporters.
- Rescue teams have been deployed in some districts in Bihar where a flood-like situation has emerged. The National Disaster Response Force said 18 of its teams have been deployed in the state.
- Uttar Pradesh received record rainfall - 1700 per cent above normal - on Friday. The eastern parts of the state are worst hit. On Saturday, Prayagraj received 102.2 mm of rain and Varanasi received 84.2 mm of rain, much higher than what is usually received at this time of the year.
- Twenty six deaths were reported from different parts of UP on Saturday. Forty seven people died across the state in rain-related incidents on Thursday and Friday. In Lucknow, Amethi, Hardoi and some other districts, schools were closed on Friday and and Saturday due to heavy downpour.
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed divisional commissioners and district magistrates to take all measures and extend immediate relief to those affected, an official said. The Chief Minister also asked the officials to extend monetary help of Rs. 4 lakh each to the family members of those killed.
- The weather department has issued a warning of "very heavy rainfall" for the next two days in several parts of the state.
- Seventy three people have died in four days in Uttar Pradesh where several parts received above-average rainfall this week.
- A red alert - likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall - has been sounded by the weather office in most districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
- In Bihar, life has come to a standstill in Patna and several other districts where heavy downpour in the last three days has flooded many parts, disrupting rail and road traffic.
- Amid heavy rain in Patna and other districts of Bihar, several trains were cancelled this morning.
- On Saturday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a review meet, via video conferencing. Heavy rain has also been reported in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where several people have died in rain-related incidents in the last few days.
President Kovind's Jharkhand visit cancelled- President Ram Nath Kovind's scheduled programme at Jharkhand's Gumla district has been cancelled, an official statement said.
- "The visit to Tribal Centre, Gumla, stands cancelled. All preparations may be stand down, the statement issued by Presidents Secretariat (tour section) said.
- The reason for the cancellation, however, was not mentioned in the statement. Sources said the decision was taken owing to heavy rain across the region.

- The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Bihar till September 30. The Patna district administration has ordered closure of all schools till Tuesday.

- The district magistrate said a contingent of NDRF and SDRF personnel was pressed into service to rescue residents from the areas alarmingly waterlogged.
- East Central Railway officials said rail traffic was suspended on the Darbhanga-Samastipur section on Saturday as tracks at some places got inundated due to heavy rain, leaving at least three trains stranded.
- The NDRF said 18 of its teams are carrying out rescue operations.
