BHUBANESWAR: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will conduct examinations in five more jails and 12 new centres in the state. Around 25000 students including 500 jail inmates will sit for the examinations.
The university was conducting tests in two jails at Berhampur and Choudwar (in Cuttack) earlier. This year, it will conduct tests in five more jails in the state. These jails are in Sundergarh, Jharpada (Bhubaneswar), Baripada, Puri and Balasore.
As the jail inmates cannot go outside to appear for the examinations en masse, the Ignou has made the arrangements inside the jails.
Filling up of forms for examinations have been started from September 5 and it will continue till October 5. The test will start from December 1 and continue till December 29, said Santosh Kumar Panigrahi, assistant regional director, Ignou regional centre Bhubaneswar.
Besides five new jails, the university will conduct examinations at 28 centres. New centres were Kuchinda College, SVM Autonomous College Jagatsinghpur, Salipur Autonomous College, DIET Puri, Ispat Autonomous College Rourkela, NSCB College Sambalpur, Aul College in Kendrapara district, TF Degree College Bargarh, Barasahi PS College in Mayurbhanj district, Govt College Sundargarh, Talcher Autonomous College and Kamakhyanagar College.
Panigrahy said the Ignou regional centre has newly opened study centres at four jails this year. Jail inmates have enrolled their names without paying any fee. "We make the study centres in jails as their examination centres. Keeping the demand in mind, we will open more centres," he added.
