AURANGABAD: A 45-year-old woman sustained serious head injury after being attacked by burglars who targeted her house in the wee hours of Tuesday. The suspects decamped with cash and valuables amounting to Rs 3.60 lakhs, said police.
A complaint in this regard was lodged at the MIDC Waluj police station. The police said that they have registered an offence against three unidentified people under various sections of the IPC including causing grievous hurt while committing house breaking.
The injured woman has been identified as Rohini Kamble-Jain, a resident of Vitthal Bhumi apartment in Pandharpur, MIDC Waluj.

The incident took place at around 3:30 am when Rohini was alone at her home. Her son Abhishek, who runs a restaurant in the area, was out for some work.
In her statement, the woman said that the burglars entered her house by breaking open the back door. Rohini, who was sleeping at the time, woke up to the sound of someone treying to open the cupboard in the neighbouring room.
Upon realising that there is someone in the house, Rohini raised an alarm. As she made an attempt to fight them off, they attacked her using a metal rod. She was hit multiple times on the face, head and neck. At the same time, her son returned home only to find her severely injured. He, somehow, managed to rush her to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where she is currently being treated.
Meanwhile, the suspects managed to flee from the spot by jumping the compound wall.
Detection branch assistant inspector Rahul Rode said that the process of collecting CCTV footage from in and around the locality is underway.
“The act of attacking a woman while committing a house break-in indicates the involvement of habitual offenders and our teams are questioning the suspects with similar modus operandi,” said Rode.
