BEGUSARAI: A ten-year-old inmate of a girls’ shelter home in Nirala Nagar under Ratanpur police outpost in Begusarai died under suspicious circumstances on Wednesday.
The shelter home superintendent, Anuja Kumari, said the other inmates informed her on Wednesday morning that Rekha Kumari was shivering vigorously and her condition appeared to be serious. “Rekha was immediately rushed to the local Sadar hospital in a rickshaw.
However, the doctors declared her brought dead,” she said.
The police later sent the body for postmortem. Anuja claimed that Rekha was handed over to the shelter home by an NGO, ‘Khagaria Bal Kalyan Samiti’.
The shelter home is run by Karpoori Thakur Rural Development Organisation, Patna, under the state social welfare department.
It is the same shelter home from where five of its inmates had escaped on September 9 after snatching the keys of the locks from the guard on duty at the gate. Begusarai GRP and local police had recovered four of the girls from Begusarai railway station. Sources said the fifth girl from Jharkhand had reached her home.
