PATNA/BIHARSHARIF: IG (Patna zone) Sanjay Singh on Thursday asked the investigation officer of the Nalanda schoolgirl gang rape case to submit a chargesheet with the Rajgir police station soon. “I have also asked Nalanda SP Nilesh Kumar to list the case for speedy trial,” the IG added. The IG said timely action of the police led to the arrest of the accused.
The 15-year-old schoolgirl, who was allegedly raped by more than six youths at a hilltop near Rajgir in Nalanda district, is yet to overcome the trauma.

The incident took place on September 16 when the Class IX student along with her boyfriend had gone to Vipulagiri hilltop, about one-and-a-half-km from Rajgir. A group of 10-12 youths suddenly surrounded them and five to six of them took turns to rape the girl at gunpoint. Some other accomplices made a video of the crime with their cellphones. The accused also threatened to kill the girl and her family members if she informed the police.
The police swung into action after the video clip went viral on social media. “Police arrested all the seven accused within 24 hours. The cellphone, which was used to videograph the incident, was also seized,” SP Nilesh said on Thursday.
The video, which is with TOI, showed how the girl’s repeated pleas to spare her went unnoticed. The rape survivor’s boyfriend, who was sitting beside her, was thrashed when he tried to resist.
The SP said the girl was sent for medical examination and her statement was also recorded in the court under Section 164 of CrPC. The SP, however, refused to share the finding of the medical test.
Meanwhile, former Madhepura MP and Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik) Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has demanded removal of Nalanda SP, Rajgir DSP and other police officers for allegedly suppressing the incident.

“DGP Gupteshwar Pandey should shift all the police officers, including the SP, to ensure justice to the rape survivor. They are working under pressure of a section of people who are trying to suppress the incident for political reasons,” Yadav said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
