PATNA: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was found murdered in Jamui district, police said on Saturday.
The woman, Sindhu Devi, had left her home at Lakhapar village under the Jamui police station area on Friday evening to answer the call of nature. However, her body was recovered from a nearby sugarcane field on Saturday morning. She was married to a resident of Barh in Patna rural early this year.

The deceased’s father, Chandramauli Paswan, a village chowkidar, apprehended that Sindhu was sexually assaulted and killed by someone. Sindhu had come to her parent’s house in Jamui from her in-laws’ place at Barh in Patna district recently.
Inspector-cum-SHO of Jamui police station Rajesh Sharan said on Saturday that postmortem was conducted at the sadar hospital at Jamui under the supervision of a medical board, comprising women doctors. “The postmortem report is awaited. Marks of strangulation were found around the victim’s neck,” he said.
Jamui sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ram Pukar Singh said preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was pregnant. “However, no external injury mark was found on her private parts, which suggests she was not raped. The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained,” he added.
Chandramauli, in the FIR lodged with the Jamui police station, alleged that his newlywed daughter was held captive and sexually assaulted before being killed.
The SDPO said that the deceased’s cellphone was missing. “I have instructed the investigating officer of the case to obtain call detail record of the woman’s cellphone, which is missing after the incident,” he told this newspaper over the phone.
